Journey Graphs
This is an interactive whiteboard activity that can be used to help pupils read and interpret graphs of speed, distance and time.

Year 7 Objectives covered:
  • Interpret diagrams and graphs and draw simple conclusions based on the shape of graphs.
Why use this?
A common difficulty pupils face is being able to read and interpret graphs, especially those that represent speed, distance and time. You can use this activity to help pupils interpret graphs like these. In the activity, pupils place ‘road signs’ at various points where they think the changes in speed suggest a driver has changed behaviour.

Pupils have opportunities to:
  • Work in small groups or pairs
  • Decide the position of the road signs
  • Form an argument that will justify their thinking
