Quadratics
This activity involves forming quadratics using seven circles. There are a range of activities that can be used to challenge pupils from year 7 to year 9. Pupils classify, visualise properties and patterns, they manipulate dynamic images, offer conjectures moving towards generalising and justifying. At the higher levels they investigate more complex situations exploring constraints and assumptions made.

This investigation will help your pupils to:
  • Classify quadrilaterals and polygons
  • Revise properties of circles
  • Practise mathematical argument including the use of conjecture, justification, counter-example, proof, exceptions
  • Use Dynamic geometry software to help visualise and explore geometric properties of 2D shapes
The investigation is suitable for pupils across a wide range of levels across Key Stages 3 and 4.

Dynamic geometry files are provided for both Geogebra and Geometer’s Sketchpad. Geogebra can be downloaded free from www.geogebra.org
